I was saved during a Revival meeting in Moorhead, Mississippi where I grew up. The Gospel—that God loved me so much that he sent his Son to die on the cross—resonated loudly to a 6-year-old Chinese boy growing up in the South during the 1960's. God's unwavering acceptance countered the deep racism I saw and felt on a daily basis. Moreover, the local church mirrored this same acceptance so that my family and I felt safe. This foundation—set through my parents’ faith, Sunday School teaching, Sunday sermons, and mentorship by Godly older men—gave me the strength and protection to overcome being a victim of prejudice.
I am a retired Fortune 50 senior executive from the Aerospace and Defense Industry as well as a retired US Army officer. My wife Melanie and I have been happily married since 1985 and have two adult children: Mallery and Joe. Joe is a senior at Baylor and Mallery is married to our Associate Pastor Joshua Yen. Josh and Mallery have blessed Melanie and I with three beautiful grandchildren: Caleb Robert, Norah Mei, and George Malcolm.
My prayer as one of your Elders is to love, guide, and counsel our church members—especially our younger men. God has placed me at Redeemer so that our young men can have the same Gospel-centered foundation I received as a youth in Mississippi. Melanie and I also feel called to serve our young families to help them focus on the importance of being a Christ-centered family. Please feel free to contact us any time. God provided the opportunity for us to retire so that we may serve His church in Denton, Texas.
